Nutrition Transportation

Volunteer Driver Information

There are over 50 Senior Hot Lunch programs throughout the County which serve delicious, balanced meals that meet one-third Recommended Daily Allowances. The lunch programs also give seniors the opportunity to socialize, enjoy birthday or holiday meals and participate in other activities, improving the quality of their lives.

However, many seniors have a hard time getting to these lunch programs because they do not have any transportation.  We can help!

About Us

Nutrition Transportation Program staff work with seniors to find the best way to get them to lunch.  We coordinate transportation services with many different providers to improve access to the lunch programs.  Our services include:

  • Assistance applying for Metro's ACCESS program.
  • Troubleshooting difficulties with any transportation provider.
  • Arranging rides on ACCESS while awaiting ACCESS eligibility certification
  • Arranging rides with volunteers driving their own vehicles.
Call (206) 448-5740 or (800) 282-5815 for information.

Are you interested in becoming a volunteer driver?

Do you...
Like to drive?
Own a car?
Enjoy meeting new people?

Drive a senior to a hot lunch program!
Transportation is one of the top problems facing King County seniors. More and more seniors are turning to the Nutrition Transportation Program for help. Unfortunately, we simply do not have enough volunteer drivers to meet their needs. We urgently need to recruit more volunteers.

Volunteer Drivers:
Provide rides using their own vehicles.
Choose the times, days, and areas they wish to drive.
Receive reimbursement for mileage and parking costs.
Receive supplemental liability insurance at no cost.
Do no heavy lifting or bearing of weight.

Our program attracts a wonderful mix of people of all ages and from all walks of life...retirees, working individuals, stay-at-home parents, snowbirds. Rain or shine, they show up on doorsteps throughout their communities to provide a ride and a helping hand. What makes our program different from buses, taxis, and ACCESS vans, is that our drivers provide not only a ride but act as an escort as well. Their dedication and compassion have created a program that's out of this world. Our clients don't know what they would do without their help.
