"Something For Everyone"
Vashon-Maury Senior Services staff, volunteers and the board strive to improve the social, intellectual, physical, and mental health and well being of seniors by providing programs and services. Vashon-Maury Senior Services is a not-for-profit corporation governed by it’s own board, and membership. However, it is important to note that programs and services are available to all seniors and/or their families regardless of membership status.

Membership:
Individuals may choose to become a member and enjoy voting privileges, take advantage of membership rates for programs and classes and receive the monthly newsletter.  

The majority of VMSS membership is age 65+. The Membership fee is $20 per individual or individuals may elect to offer additional support by selecting to become a sustaining or centurion member for the year. Life Membership is also available. Scholarships are available. "Membership supports our ability to maintain programs and services for seniors and their families. While we have been here for two decades, ongoing support is needed for today and tomorrow as well!" the Membership Committee notes.

Newsletter:
The Golden Age Gazette is published monthly and mailed to members as part of membership. It is available at the reception desk for non-members by request.

Programs and Services:
Improving Physical Health and Mental Well-being:

  • Enhance Fitness Program, co-sponsored by Vashon Park District
  • Nutritional Lunches are served Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday @ 11:45 AM. at Vashon Senior Center. Suggested donation is$3.00 for individuals age 60 or older.
  • Meals On Wheels deliveries are coordinated by volunteers every Tuesday morning @ 9:30 AM. Call 463-5173 for information.
  • Senior Rights Assistance is available by appointment only, call 463-5173.
  • Neighborhood Legal Clinic is available the 1st Thursday each month by appointment
  • Informative Workshops and Presentations scheduled throughout the year.

Improving Intellectual Well-being:

  • Computer Classes co-sponsored by King County Techlab System.
  • Bridge
  • Memoirs writing workshop
  • Safety Programs cosponsored with AARP and Vashon Island Fire and Rescue
  • Stimulating Discussions: Current Events meets the 2nd and 4th Thursdays @ 1:00 PM. Great Decisions discussions - Call for next session.

Improving Social Well-being:

  • Monthly trips to museums, theatre productions, and NW locations
  • Monthly Potluck, 3rd Sunday @ 2:00 PM September - May
  • Lively card games
  • Birthday Luncheon - the first Wednesday of every month. Free to members celebrating their birthday that month.

Other Special programs include the Annual Spring Tea and Style Show, Annual Membership August Picnic, and the Annual Membership Meeting and Volunteer Reception held in April.

Volunteers:
VOLUNTEERS are an essential part of Vashon-Maury Senior Services, for only with their dedication can we offer a variety of activities and services every month. Volunteering is a source of great satisfaction for everyone who participates. If you would like to volunteer or would like more information, call 463-5173. Some of the volunteer needs include summer gardening, office assistance, kitchen aides, and handy-folks to mention a few.

Volunteers help offset over 10% of the annual operating budget managing fundraising such as the Spring Fundraising Dinner and the Summer Membership Fun(d) Drive. Interested? Call us @ 463-5173
