Frequently Asked Questions

We encourage you to read our Community Standards before joining our site. Please feel free to refer to them at a later date from the link to "Community Standards" at the top of every page

Do I have to register?...

All of those wishing to post must register. The process is easy. It begins with registering by clicking on the register link at the top right of most pages. Users who want to read the daily accounts of the trials and tribulations as well as the successes and satisfaction of other caregivers are welcome even if they choose not to post themselves. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to do it!

How can I use smilies?...

You've probably seen others use smilies before in email messages or other bulletin board posts. Smilies are keyboard characters used to convey an emotion, such as a smile or a frown . This bulletin board automatically converts certain smilies to a graphical representation. For example, if you type [:)] in your post, it will automatically be converted to a smiling face. Click here to see the smilies that are currently supported.

Can I add HTML to my messages?

You can only use HTML in your signature. But please be very careful that you use proper HTML syntax. If you do not, your moderator or administrator may have to edit your post. Special coding that can do some of the things that HMTL can is available to use in your posts. MEssage Board Code is similar to HTML, but offers just a few basic functions, such as hyperlinking, bolding and italicizing. A complete list of current Caregiver Message Board Codes are:

Makes all text following bold until you type
Makes all text following italicized until you type
Makes all text following
quote:
underlined and formatted
until you type
[a] Makes all text following a Link until you type [/a]

What are moderators?...

Moderators are forum leaders who help us to maintain our Community Standards, support interesting and supportive conversation on their forum of choice and generally try to assist fellow members in the interest of building a better community. The most natural Moderators are those who already read most posts on their forum of choice at least daily and have been readers long enough to appreciate and want to help maintain our commitment to building a diverse, supportive and respectful caregiver community.

In most cases, we require Moderators to have spent at least six months participating in the caregiver community and be at least 18 years of age. If you're interested in Moderating or would like more information, please contact us.

How can I change my registration profile?...

You may easily change any information stored in your registration profile, using the profile link located near the top of each page. Simply identify yourself by typing your username and password and all of your profile information will then be displayed. You may change any items, except your username. All red starred fields are required.

Are cookies used?...

The Caregiver Message Board Site uses cookies to store the following information: the last time you logged in and your username and password. These cookies are stored on your browser. Cookies are not used to track your movement or perform any function other than making you use of the Caregiver Message Board Site easier. If your browser does not support cookies, or you have not enabled cookies on your browser, many of these time-saving features will not work properly.

Can I edit my own posts?...

You may edit or delete your own posts at any time. Just go to the post in question. The edit icon is on the line that begins "posted on..." Click on this icon to edit or delete the post. No one else can edit your post, except for the forum moderator or the bulletin board administrator. A note is generated at the bottom of each post that is edited so that every one knows when a post has been edited. Note that if your post was the start of a new topic, deleting your post will result in the removal of the entire topic (all replies after your topic will also be deleted).

Can I attach files?...

Files may not be attached to any post. You may cut and paste text into your post and use Caregiver Message Board Code to provide hyperlinks to outside documents.

Can I search?...

You may search for specific posts based on a word or words found in the posts, user name, and date. Just click on the search link at the top of most pages.

Can I add a standard signature to my posts?...

You may use a signature (commonly used in email messages) on your posts. If you click on the profile link at the top of most pages, you will be able to edit your profile, including your standard signature. Once you have a signature stored, you can choose to include it any post you make by checking the "Check here to include your profile signature" option box when you create your post. You may also change your signature at any time by changing your profile.

Note: You may use HTML in your signature file.

Are there any censor features?...

Caregiver Message Board administrators have the power to censor certain words that may be posted. This is not an exact science, and therefore certain words may be censored out of context. Please realize that this process is being done by a computer based on the words that are being screened. Words that are censored are replaced with asterisks.

What do I do if I lost my username and/or password?...

Retrieving your username and password is simple easy. All of the pages that require you to identify yourself with your username and password carry a "lost password" link that you can use to have your username and password emailed instantly to your email address of record. Or click here.

Can I be notified by email if someone responds to my topic?...

If you create a new topic, you have the option of receiving an email notification every time someone posts a reply to your topic. Just check the email notification box on the forum when you create your new topic, if you want to use this feature.
