Who Are Mazuma's Volunteer Financial Coaches?

Charles Freedenberg

Chuck is a retired tax attorney and former commercial real-estate instructor and author. In June, 1999, he started collaborating with The Mortgage Professor, a nationally syndicated columnist. Together they have developed 50 financial calculators that help borrowers decide how to finance or refinance their homes, compute retirement savings, or compare long term care insurance policies. These calculators are available at no cost at www.decisionaide.com. Freedenberg is a self-taught computer programmer with over three decades of experience. He is currently assisting Microsoft to develop financial calculators for their MSN Money website.

Tim Hill

Tim is a Registered Financial Consultant (RFC) and has been in the benefits industry for 32 years, and is Managing Principal of Benefit Administration Company, LLC. From 1986 through 1992, he was President of a state-chartered trust company specializing in trust and custodial services for public and private sector pension programs, where he served as primary fiduciary for clients, representing over $1.2 billion in trust assets. He spent the previous eleven years as President of Benefit Service Corp., an employee benefits consulting firm.  

Michael Mc Beth

Mike is a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). He has a BA degree from the University of WA, an MA from the University of Wisconsin and a PHD from the University of WA in History. He taught at St. Olaf and Carleton Colleges from 1972 to 1977.  Mike administered trust accounts for Seafirst Bank from 1982 to 1999. He is a Chartered Financial Consultant (financial planning) and has a CLU professional certification (life insurance).

Helene Robertson

Helene has been a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) since 1984 and manages over $90M in assets. She specializes in Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) which allows investors to select which social screens they want to apply to their investments.  Teaching has always been a part of Helene’s work.  First, she taught high school French.  Next, she taught for 10 years at Seattle Central Community College in the Early Children/Parent Education program.  In 1982 she began teaching classes Through the UW Experimental College on “Planning for Retirement”, “Financial Survival Skills”, and “Socially Responsible Investing”.  She taught those classes for over 20 years.  Helene has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the Seattle Times, Money magazine, and on Yahoo.  In 2007, she was selected as one of the best personal wealth managers in Seattle by Seattle Magazine.

Gary Shinkoskey

Gary is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and has been involved with the financial investment field since 1967, including 25 years with the Frank Russell Company, where he built a $25 billion investment management business. Gary reached the senior vice president level at the Frank Russell Company and then worked for Massachusetts Financial Services as their director of international sales. SHIBA is now most fortunate to have Gary donating his time as a community volunteer at the West Seattle Senior Center. Gary has been the lead volunteer working with staff to develop Mazuma.

Randy Williams-Gurian

Randy is the President of BAC Capital Advisors, LLC and chairman of the BAC Capital Advisors, LLC Investment Committee. He has overall responsibility for fund selection, asset allocation strategies, investment education and employee communications. Randy has provided investment advice to clients since the early 1990s and his commentary has appeared in various local and national publications including The Seattle Times and The Wall Street Journal. After graduating with honors from the University of Puget Sound in 1986, he earned a Master's Degree in Finance and Entrepreneurship from the University of Arizona in 1990.
