Seattle City Light Program Offers Free Installation of Energy and Water Conservation Devices

The innovative Powerful Neighborhoods program piloting in South Seattle is making it easier than ever for residents to install energy and water saving technologies in their homes. Since April, Powerful Neighborhoods program staffs have visited more than 2,000 Seattle homes to install free energy efficiency and water conservation measures. Program staff also install a free smoke detector while they are in the home.

Installations are done by staff members, many of whom are multi-lingual offering twelve  languages besides English.  The majority of the staff have been recruited from South Seattle communities. With bilingual installers and outreach staff reaching out to customers directly, City Light hopes to increase participation and better explain energy saving options. So far, the program has received high marks from residents. ”We want to thank you for your assistance,” said a South Seattle resident recently served by Powerful Neighborhoods. “Now, not only will our electric and water bills decrease, we'll have less impact on the environment.” Another resident commented, “This is a great program. Thank you. I thought I had most of my lights already replaced, but there were still a lot that needed to be changed.”

The Powerful Neighborhoods program is currently serving seven zip codes in South Seattle: 98144, 98118, 98178, 98108, 98126, 98106, and 98134. To qualify, you must live in a single-family home or 2 to 4-unit building. If you would like to participate in the program please call the Powerful Neighborhoods multilingual phone line at 206-449-1132 or e-mail SCL_Install@Seattle.Gov to schedule an appointment. All products and installation services are free.

Water Conservation Project

FREE water-saving toilets including free installation are available to Seattle homeowners who meet certain eligibility guidelines. Toilets are the biggest water-wasters in most homes so replacing old toilets with these great new ones will save  a lot of money on utility bills. The plumbers who do the installations are licensed, bonded, and have years of professional experience.  To find out more, call 206-448-5751.
