Adult Day Health Centers

Caring for someone who is frail or has a disability is a demanding job. Adult day health (ADH) centers can provide caregivers with a much-deserved break, secure in the knowledge that family members are receiving excellent care. ADH centers provide frail adults experiencing physical, mental or social problems associated with stroke, isolation, confusion or other conditions with the opportunity to meet new people, participate in challenging activities and enjoy daily life in comforting surroundings.

ADH center staff oversee a variety of activities specially designed to meet the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of adults who may be physically challenged or coping with some sort of dementia or memory loss. These activities can range from arts and crafts, discussion groups and light exercise to safe care for functionally impaired persons and can include case management, individual counseling, and health screening.

What is the difference between adult day care and adult day health care?

Adult day care is a supervised daytime program providing personal care services appropriate for adults with medical or disabling conditions that do not require the intervention or services of a registered nurse (RN) or licensed rehabilitative therapist acting under the supervision of the client’s physician.

Adult day health care is a supervised daytime program providing skilled nursing and rehabilitative therapy services in addition to personal care services. Adult day health care services are appropriate for adults with medical or disabling conditions that require the intervention or services of a registered nurse (RN) or licensed rehabilitative therapist acting under the supervision of the client’s physician.
