To be eligible for Meals on Wheels, persons must:
be homebound (requiring assistance to leave home), residents of King County and
age 60 or over. The spouse and/or disabled younger
persons living with an eligible senior are also eligible to receive meals.
The application process typically takes one week or less.
Meals on Wheels offers a selective menu of 31 lunches and dinners and 5
breakfasts. Meals are prepared with no added salt, limited fat, very few
spices and are adaptable to a variety of special diet needs. Each meal meets
one-third of the Recommended Dietary Allowances for persons age 60 and over.
The cost is a suggested donation of $3.00 per meal. Food Stamp Vouchers are
accepted as contributions. Persons decide for themselves what if anything
they wish to contribute. No eligible participant is denied meals if unable
to donate. Disabled
persons who are under age 60 and are homebound may purchase the meals at
the full cost of $3.75 per meal. You may apply for Meals on Wheels online.
Mobile Market (Click to view grocery list)
Within the Seattle City
limits, eligible Meals on Wheels participants also have the choice of
receiving a variety of reasonably-priced groceries delivered to their
home through our Mobile Market Program.Mobile Market is available
outside the city limits of Seattle - however, it is limited to Liquid
Nutritional Supplements. To apply to the Mobile Market Program,
you must complete a Meals on Wheels application.
The Senior Hot Lunch Congregate Nutrition program serves delicious,
balanced meals in welcoming group settings to people who are at least 60
years of age. Weekly ethnic meals including Japanese, Latino, Kosher and
Soul Food are served at participating sites. Meal Programs serve up to 5
days a week and offer monthly birthday, holiday and special lunch and dinner
menus. All meals meet one-third recommended Daily Allowances for persons 60
years of age and older. The cost is a confidential suggested donation of $3.00
per meal. Persons decide for themselves what if anything they wish to contribute.
No eligible participant is denied a meal if unable to donate. Food Stamp Vouchers are
accepted as contributions. Participants spouses or their disabled children who
reside with them may receive meals at the donation level regardless of age.
Guests under the age of 60 are welcome for lunch and dinner at the full charge of $5.75.
