VOLUNTEER TYPES

Please check the two (2) types of volunteer work you do most often. (Select up to 2.)
(n=226)

Our respondents were engaged in a wide variety of volunteer work, from strategic planning to advocacy to administrative support.  Are members of some demographic groups more likely to participate in one type of volunteering over others?

By Retirement Status
By Age
By Sex
By Educational Attainment

Retirement Status

As shown above, non-retirees are more than twice as likely to participate in governance/strategic planning and organizing/coordinating volunteer work than are retirees.

Whereas, retirees are much more likely to be engaged in administrative service.

Age

The type of volunteer work a person engages in is also likely to be affected by their age.  One example is a person’s likelihood of doing Direct Service.  66% of 35-44 year olds are engaged in direct Service and 56% of 75-84 year olds.  No other age group has more than 42% of its members engaged in Direct Service.

If we look down each age group column in the table below, we get a clearer picture of which type of volunteer work members of each age group are most likely to be engaged in.

Educational Attainment

Direct Service volunteering was popular among all three educational attainment groups and was the top choice of respondents with Bachelor's and Master's degrees.  Informational/Educational volunteering was the top choice among respondents with doctoral and professional degrees.
