How
did you learn about the volunteer opportunity in which you last engaged?
(n=226)

As you can
see in the chart above, respondents heard about volunteer
opportunities from a variety of sources. The most popular
choices, regardless of demographic category, were
“Friend/Relative” (27%) and “Community Organization/Public
Agency” (23%). Notably, less than 1% of respondents said they
heard about the last volunteer position they began from a fair
or convention.
One
demographic category within the sample did show a variance in
responses to this question among its subgroups.
Age

-
Newspapers: Older respondents (age 55+) were slightly more
likely to have heard about a volunteer position from the
newspaper.
-
Internet: Not surprisingly, younger volunteers were more
likely to have heard about a volunteer position through the
internet. No respondents above age 65 checked this
response.
-
Religious Community: the 45-64 age group was more likely
to have heard about a volunteer position through a
religious community than members of other age cohorts.
-
Teachers and School: Age slightly decreased the likelihood
that respondents were informed of a volunteer position by a
teacher or at school.
-
Another Volunteer: Older volunteers were more likely to have
heard about a volunteer position through a person who
already volunteered for the
program.
