About Senior Rights Assistance

Do you publish a newsletter read by older adults and those who care for them?  Use the program descriptions below to let your readers know about Senior Rights Assistance and the Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors programs.

Senior Rights Assistance (SRA)

The Senior Rights Assistance program’s trained volunteers provide free information to King County’s older adults on a number of topics related to their rights and options, including estate planning, powers of attorney, wills, landlord/tenant issues, homeowner concerns, consumer issues, debt management, kinship care, burial/funeral planning, and victims of crime assistance.  SRA can also schedule an appointment for you to visit with an attorney for 30 minutes at no charge to discuss powers of attorney, wills/probate, guardianships, and estate planning.  Please call 206-448-5720 to speak with a SRA volunteer.

Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) HelpLine

The Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) HelpLine provides free, unbiased health insurance information for people of all ages.  Trained SHIBA HelpLine volunteers assist consumers with choices and problems involving private health insurance as well as many government programs (Medicare, Medicaid, Basic Health, Children's Health Insurance Program, and the Washington State Health Insurance Pool).  SHIBA HelpLine volunteers are also trained to answer questions regarding Medigap coverage, employment-related health benefits, managed care, long-term care insurance, and fraud and abuse questions.  Counseling is done via phone or at one of 40 sites in King County.  To speak with a SHIBA HelpLine volunteer, call 1-800-562-6900.
