SAGE
In 1978, the first SAGE (Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Elders) program was created by dedicated activists and aging services professionals who were committed to improving the quality of life for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) elders. Today, there are SAGE affiliates around the country, collectively known as SAGENet. Each SAGENet member is independent of the original, New York City-based SAGE.
SAGE Seattle became a SAGENet member in 2012. SAGE Seattle addresses the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) King County residents as they age. In 2012 the board of Senior Services approved a resolution to host Sage Seattle. As with all SAGENet members, SAGE Seattle seeks to:
- Improve the overall quality of life for LGBT seniors,
- Foster a greater understanding of aging in all communities, and
- Promote positive images of LGBT life in later years.
